SCENE 01 / SOUND DESIGN
Sound Design
Creative sound design that brings stories to life through immersive audio landscapes and compelling sonic experiences.
Sound design builds the full sonic world of a production. It does this by picking, creating, and layering audio. Sound designers craft mood textures, impact effects, transitions, and site-level soundscapes that pull audiences into the story and deepen the feeling of each scene.
We connect you with sound designers who bring creative vision and tech skill to your project's audio. Our team runs the sound design process from the first spotting sessions through final delivery, so your sonic identity stays distinct, rich, and emotionally compelling.

On Location
Original sound design across NYC's audio-post community
Sound design for shoots in New York draws on a community of designers rooted across the city's audio-post cluster. That community spans Sound Lounge in Times Square, Sonic Union, Heard City, Crew Cuts in Hell's Kitchen, the Audio Department in Chelsea, JSM Music + Sound in Soho, Pomann Sound, Dubway Studios in Midtown, plus the Wave Group and Goldcrest Post NY audio bays. It also takes in the in-house design teams at HBO Hudson Yards, Apple TV+ NYC, Showtime/Paramount, and the SNL audio team at Studio 8H.
Our team lines up spotting sessions early and scopes the project's sonic palette against the visual context. The dense urban layering a Manhattan crime drama needs, set in Lower East Side and Brooklyn locations, reads very differently from the steel-and-glass sound of a Midtown corporate thriller. It also differs from the brownstone-interior texture of an Upper West Side family drama, or the subway, ferry, helicopter, and harbor textures that mark true NYC exterior soundscapes.
Designers build atmospheres, impact effects, transitions, and creature work to picture. Where the budget allows, they first record source material on location: Times Square crowd density, subway-platform reverb, FDR Drive traffic wash, Brooklyn Bridge pedestrian texture, and the exact sound of bodega interiors and pre-war apartment hallways. They then layer that with synthesis and library material in Pro Tools HDX sessions.
The work spans every genre NYC production exports. That covers HBO premium drama from Hudson Yards, Apple TV+ originals, tight Showtime/Paramount series, Netflix and Amazon Studios features, supernatural horror, and modern crime thrillers in the line that runs through Sidney Lumet and Spike Lee. It also covers festival arthouse bound for Tribeca, Telluride, or NYFF, network broadcast drama through 30 Rock, and the Saturday Night Live sketch-comedy palette out of Studio 8H. Our designers move with ease between cinematic norms and the looser, freer palette that streaming originals invite.
We share works-in-progress at agreed milestones, so directors and editors weigh in early on key sonic choices before we commit time to finishing each element. Our team folds in picture changes through to final mix without upsetting the design palette. Mix-ready sessions reach the dub stage sorted into clearly named stems — atmospheres, hard effects, designed elements, transitions, creature, mechanical, car — with full session notes and source-file provenance, ready for the supervising sound editor and re-recording mixer to fold in. Global clients join reviews via Source-Connect Pro or Evercast, with full-fix picture, talkback, and clip-by-clip sign-off back to the design suite.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is sound design and why is it important?
Sound design is the creative work of building audio that the production recordings never caught — from ambient moods and site-level sounds to wild effects and creature voices. Great sound design makes worlds feel real, lifts the emotion, and crafts cinematic moments that audiences feel as much as hear.
Do you create original sounds or use libraries?
We blend both ways. Our sound designers cut original recordings and synthesized sounds for the unique elements that define your production, and they tap premium sound libraries to save time. Each project gets a tailored sonic palette that meets its own creative needs.
Can you design sounds for specific genres like sci-fi or horror?
Yes, fully. Our team has deep experience across every genre, from science fiction and horror to fantasy, action, drama, and documentary. We know the sonic norms and audience expectations of each genre, and we bring a fresh creative take to every project.
How do you work with directors and editors?
We work hand in hand across the whole process. Most jobs start with spotting sessions to grasp your vision, then we share works-in-progress for feedback and refine the sounds on your direction. Our team can lock to picture or roll with editorial changes as your project grows.
