SCENE 01 / MUSIC COMPOSITION SCORING

Music Composition & Scoring

Original music that elevates storytelling through emotional resonance, thematic development, and unforgettable melodies that define your production.

Scroll

Music composition and scoring create original music shaped to your production's emotional arc, pacing, and story themes. Composers work with directors to build the main themes, arrange the parts, and record scores. The result lifts the story and gives a finished film or program its emotional signature.

We connect you with composers and scoring rooms suited to your project's style and budget. Our team sets up the creative work between composer and director, then manages demo reviews, recording sessions, and final delivery. The goal is a score that lifts every moment of your story.

Original scoring from NYC's composer and music-industry hub

Original music for shoots finishing in New York draws on the deepest composer pool on the East Coast and direct access to the city's music-industry setup. That includes the BMI, ASCAP and SESAC NYC offices and the major-label HQs of Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group, Atlantic and Roc Nation. It also covers the jingle and commercial-scoring tradition built at JSM Music + Sound in Soho, Pomann Sound and the Audio Department in Chelsea. The NYC-based film-composer roster runs deep too, with Carter Burwell (the Coen brothers' scoring partner of four decades, working out of NYC), Nicholas Britell (Moonlight, Succession, Andor), Daniel Pemberton and Mychael Danna. A new generation feeds through the Juilliard, Manhattan School of Music and NYU film-scoring programs.

Recording happens across the city's top tracking rooms, from Power Station at BerkleeNYC to the Avatar Studios legacy spaces. Orchestral sessions run at Manhattan School of Music, and union-call sessions go through Local 802 AFM. The New York-based session players track everything from Succession to Saturday Night Live's house band.

Score production runs from the first spotting session through fully mixed music stems, delivered against the production's picture-lock date. It opens with a spotting pass against locked picture to find where music will sit and what it must carry emotionally. The work then moves through theme development and director approval, and on into cue composition and recording. That recording can be a live orchestra or chamber session tracked at Power Station or Manhattan School of Music with AFM Local 802 players. It can also be a hybrid session that blends live soloists with virtual-instrument mockups inside Pro Tools. When the budget or schedule calls for it, the score can run on sample-based mockups alone.

Dolby Atmos object-based stems are tracked at Atmos-certified rooms when the theatrical or premium home release supports it. We pair them with calibrated 5.1, 7.1 and stereo fold-downs for streaming and broadcast delivery to HBO, Netflix, Apple TV+, Disney+ and Amazon platform specs. Rights admin runs through the composer's PRO sign-up, whether that is BMI, ASCAP or SESAC out of their NYC offices. Cue sheets plus full publishing and mechanical records ship alongside the masters. Standard agreements transfer full ownership of the original compositions to the producer, including publishing and mechanical rights. We frame this up front in the composer contract so there is no rights doubt at TV networks or platform delivery.

      FAQ

      Frequently Asked Questions

How does the composition process work?

We start with a spotting session to find where music should sit and to set the creative direction. Our composers then build themes for your approval before scoring each cue. Across the process, we share works in progress and fold in your feedback so the music serves your vision.

Can you work with a limited budget?

Yes, we offer flexible options for many budgets. That might mean smaller ensemble arrangements, smart use of virtual instruments, or a hybrid mix of live and sampled parts. We'll talk through your budget up front and propose the best way to raise production value.

Do we own the music rights?

In most cases, yes. Our standard agreements transfer full ownership of the original compositions to you, including all publishing and mechanical rights. We'll spell out the rights in our contract and provide every record you need for music cue sheets and royalty sign-ups.

      Can you incorporate live musicians?

Absolutely. We work with pro session musicians and can set up recording sessions that range from a solo instrument all the way to a full orchestra. Live recording adds a human touch that lifts scores in a big way, and we'll recommend the right approach for your musical needs and budget.

Productions in New York that need this often pair it with Foley Recording Services, Sound Design Services, and 5.1 Surround Mixing Services for full coverage. Most projects also draw on Music Video Production and Look Development Services.
