Director of Photography Services
Experienced DPs for film, TV, commercials, and documentaries throughout New York.
A Director of Photography shapes the visual narrative of a production through creative decisions about lighting, camera movement, lens selection, and composition. New York City — the birthplace of American independent cinema and home to Steiner Studios and Silvercup Studios — has been shaped by the work of legendary DPs like Gordon Willis ASC and Bradford Young ASC, whose urban cinematography defined the look of modern filmmaking.
We connect you with experienced Directors of Photography who understand both the creative and practical demands of your production. Whether you are shooting at Steiner Studios in Brooklyn Navy Yard or on location in Midtown Manhattan, our team matches your project with DPs who bring the right visual sensibility and equipment sourced through rental houses like TCS and Adorama Rental Co.

NYC Directors of Photography from Local 600 East to feature DPs
Here is how the work lines up. New York's Director of Photography community sits at the intersection of independent cinema's birthplace and the modern American auteur — a lineage that runs from Gordon Willis ASC's interiors on The Godfather and Manhattan, through Sven Nykvist's Woody Allen years, into the working ranks our network draws on every week.
Bradford Young ASC for the deep, character-driven palettes that defined Selma and Arrival; Sean Bobbitt BSC ASC for the long-take Steve McQueen tradition; Robert Elswit ASC, Phedon Papamichael ASC, and Maryse Alberti for feature documentary and drama; Andrij Parekh, Adam Newport-Berra, Tobias Datum, Christopher Norr, and Mark Schwartzbard across HBO, Apple TV+, A24, and Netflix New York drama; Reed Morano ASC, Rachel Morrison ASC, Robbie Ryan ISC BSC, and Daniel Landin BSC on New York-anchored features.
All of them work inside IATSE Local 600 East Coast — the Global Cinematographers Guild chapter that governs cinematographer, camera op, focus puller, and DIT contracts across the Tri-State. Emerging cinematographers coming up through Tisch, Columbia, SVA, and AFI New York round out a roster of more than 150 vetted DPs covering Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Hudson Valley, and out to Long Island.
Engagements begin with a creative brief, reference deck, and budget envelope, then narrow to a curated shortlist of showreels and direct conversations before booking. Our DPs are fluent across ARRI Alexa 35, Alexa Mini LF, RED V-Raptor and Komodo, and Sony Venice 2 bodies sourced through TCS, AbelCine, Panavision New York, ARRI Rental NY, and Adorama Rental Co., and most carry standing working relationships with the Local 600 1st AC, focus puller, DIT, and Local 52 gaffer and key grip teams they prefer to bring with them.
Pre-production includes shot lists, lighting plans, lens tests, and tech scouts across Steiner Studios at Brooklyn Navy Yard, Silvercup Queens, Kaufman Astoria, York Studios Bronx, JC Studios Brooklyn, and Broadway Stages, plus exterior work across Manhattan, the boroughs, Hudson Valley, and the Hamptons. NYS Film Tax Credit paperwork at 30% with the 10% NYC uplift is prepared alongside MOME Made in NY film permits, NYPD Movie & TV Unit coordination, and FDNY film safety officers wherever the location demands them. Global productions can either blend a New York DP with a travelling director or place a New York cinematographer onto a foreign shoot under one Local 600 contract.
FAQ
Our DP Network
What experience levels of DPs do you provide?
We offer DPs across all experience levels: emerging cinematographers for indie and low-budget projects, mid-level DPs with solid commercial and documentary credits, and senior DPs with feature film and international broadcast experience. We match experience to your budget and project requirements.
How do you match DPs to projects?
We review your creative brief, reference materials, and budget to shortlist DPs with relevant genre experience and aesthetic alignment. You receive curated showreels and can request direct conversations with candidates before booking.
What camera systems do your DPs work with?
Our DPs are proficient across all major cinema camera systems including ARRI Alexa, RED, Sony Venice, Blackmagic, and Canon cinema lines. Many specialize in specific systems but all are adaptable to production requirements and rental availability.
Do DPs come with their own equipment?
Some owner-operator DPs bring personal camera packages, while others work with rented equipment. We coordinate equipment sourcing based on your preference and budget, whether through DP-owned gear, rental houses, or production-provided equipment.
Can you provide international DPs for shoots in New York?
Yes. We can source international DPs for shoots in New York, handling work permits and logistics. We also provide New York DPs for international productions requiring local cinematography talent abroad.
What's included in DP day rates?
Standard DP day rates cover on-set cinematography services during production hours. Pre-production work (tech scouts, shot listing, meetings) is typically billed separately. Equipment, camera assistants, and overtime are additional based on project scope.
