On Location
Prestige scripted series across the Hollywood East stage base
New York is Hollywood East for prestige drama. It is the production base that gave us The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, Mad Men, 30 Rock, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Succession, Billions, Pose, Russian Doll, Severance, Only Murders in the Building, Inventing Anna and The Deuce.
Our team gives scripted series support across the Silvercup Queens stages where Mrs. Maisel and Sex and the City shot, the Steiner Studios complex at the Brooklyn Navy Yard where Severance and Vinyl built worlds, the Kaufman Astoria backlot home to Orange Is the New Black, York Studios in the Bronx, JC Studios in Brooklyn where Boardwalk Empire built its 1920s docks, and Broadway Stages across Greenpoint. Key crew come through IATSE Local 52, Local 600 cinematographers East, Local 161 script supervisors, Local 798 makeup, the Costume Designers Guild and Teamsters Local 817, with DGA East and WGA East lining up creative leadership.
Period drama is one of New York's signature outputs. We work with the costume houses at Eastern Costume, Helen Uffner Vintage Leasing and Western Costume's New York operations, prop suppliers across Brooklyn and Long Island City, and the heritage districts that ground true period work: the Brooklyn Heights brownstones, the cobblestone DUMBO and Tribeca streets, the Gilded Age Fifth Avenue mansions, and the kept Lower East Side tenements at the Tenement Museum. Modern series shoot across Manhattan high-rises, Brooklyn neighborhoods, Queens immigrant corridors, and the Hudson Yards HBO headquarters.
Production routes through the NYS Film Tax Credit at a 30 percent base, the 10 percent NYC uplift on qualifying spend, the 30-35 percent post-prod credit and the 35 percent upstate uplift. NYC MOME handles Made in NY permits, and Empire State Development handles reporting. Post-prod finishing runs through Goldcrest, Harbor, Light Iron and the Manhattan audio post houses, all delivering to streamer tech specs.
