Runner & Set PA Services

Here is how the work lines up. Set PAs and runners on our New York roster come up through the classic NYC PA ladder — the entry route that has fed Steiner Studios, Silvercup, Kaufman Astoria and Broadway Stages for generations — supplemented now by graduates and today's students from NYU Tisch, Columbia, SVA, Pratt and The New School, and by the workshops run through MOME's Made in NY Production Assistant Training Program and the NYC Production Alliance.

Here is what that looks like on the ground. They cut their teeth on HBO and Showtime series, the long-running Law & Order and Blue Bloods units, Marvel and Sony features, Netflix and Apple TV+ originals and the dense slate of indie features mounted by A24, Killer Films and the Tribeca alumni community before crossing onto whatever the next New York State Film Tax Credit production needs them on.

Here is how the picture comes together. They know the geography of the Brooklyn Navy Yard, Long Island City's Silvercup blocks, the Kaufman lot in Astoria, the Greenpoint and Bushwick Broadway Stages footprint and the Hudson Yards production corridor, and many of the driver PAs hold Teamsters Local 817 cards on top of their MOME PA training and OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 cards.

Here is what we have to work with. On a working day, our New York runners move gear between rental houses such as TCS, Eye Lite, Hand Held Films, Adorama Rentals and Panavision New York and active sets, distribute call sheets in English across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and the Hudson Valley locations, manage walkie-talkie traffic alongside the AD team, run craft services with the bagels-and-coffee morning standard that NYC sets expect, and handle wardrobe pickups, set lock-ups under the NYPD Movie/TV Unit's traffic protocols, basecamp setup along the tight NYC DOT parking footprint and end-of-day breakdown.

Here is the layout. They are familiar with IATSE working-hour conventions on late hours and turnaround, the OSHA 30 mandate that governs their on-set conduct, the practical realities of shooting through summer humidity in Queens and Brooklyn, autumn rain along the Hudson, winter snow on Long Island and the cobbled-street logistics of DUMBO, the Meatpacking District, the Financial District and the West Village.

Here is how the work shapes up. They support the production office with vendor pickups across Long Island City. The Brooklyn Navy Yard, ferry day extras from MOME holding sites, and step into background-wrangling shifts when the AD team needs extra bodies on the floor. We match runners to shoots based on borough familiarity, driving licence class, union profile and prior NYC credits.
